How to connect apps to DDots safely
Part of the Dots beginner track · OpenAI.
Proactive research. When you're not chatting, your dot looks for ways to help using the apps you connected. OpenAI says these background tools are read-only. They can't send messages, change app content, or control your browser or computer. But your dot can still form memories from what it reads.
Custom rules: four choices. For actions like sharing, purchasing, or accessing things, you can pick:
- Take action without asking
- Take action if pre-approved (you asked for it directly in your prompt)
- Ask before taking action
- Hand off to you
Start with Ask before taking action for anything that sends, buys, or shares.
Built-in safeguards.
- Auto-review checks actions that could affect your accounts or share info.
- Some steps, like changing a password, always stay with you.
- Dots can use saved passwords on supported sites without showing them to the AI model.
- If OpenAI's monitoring spots a safety concern, it can pause or stop the dot.
Your own computer. Off by default. If you turn it on in the desktop app, your dot can work with files on that computer from any channel, including Slack. Turn it off with Revoke access.
The big gotcha: disconnecting doesn't delete. If you disconnect an app, info your dot already got from it stays. To delete it, you must reset (delete) your dot.
Training. On personal plans, you control whether dot conversations are used to improve OpenAI's models. OpenAI says it doesn't train directly on proactive research or your dot's notes to itself.
