Is GBGrok Bot safe? Approvals, permissions, and what can go wrong

Part of the Grok Bot beginner track · xAI (branded SpaceXSI on x.ai; app published by Anysphere/Cursor).

What Grok Bot can touch: anything you connect or sign into on its cloud computer. That includes websites, files, and connected apps. It only touches your own computer if you allow it.

The approval card. When an action needs your OK, the chat shows what the Bot wants to do and with what details. You can choose:

  • Allow once: do this one action.
  • Always allow: can save a rule so similar actions run without asking.
  • Deny: block it.

Use Allow once for anything that sends, buys, publishes, or deletes.

Approvals expire for background work. If a routine or another Bot started the work, the approval card expires after about 10 minutes and the action doesn't run. Ask the Bot to try again.

Auto Review rules. Go to Settings → General → Auto-review.

  • Ask first rules always stop matching actions for you.
  • Allow automatically rules let matching actions go ahead, unless the automatic review finds a reason to stop.
  • If both match, Ask first wins.
  • Write narrow rules, like "Ask first before sending any external email." Avoid "allow everything in the browser."

Passwords and codes. Never paste a password or one-time code in chat. When a site needs one, choose Take over, type it yourself, then choose I'm done.

Your own computer. In Settings → General → Bot → Execution on Local Computer, choose Ask every time, Always allow, or Never allow. The default is Ask every time. xAI suggests Never allow unless a Bot needs your local files.

The shared-computer gotcha. All your Bots share one cloud computer, including logins and files. If you sign into your bank for one Bot, every Bot on your account can use that session.

Weekly safety check (5 minutes):

  1. Review your Auto-review rules. Delete any broad "allow" rule.
  2. Check Connect apps → Your plugins. Remove what you don't use.
  3. Open each Bot's Routines. Pause anything you don't need.
  4. Read one week of results from each routine.
