GBGrok Bot setup guide for beginners
Part of the Grok Bot beginner track · xAI (branded SpaceXSI on x.ai; app published by Anysphere/Cursor).
What you need before you start:
- A plan that includes Grok Bot: Premium ($30) or higher, Teams, or an older SuperGrok or paid Cursor plan you link.
- A computer running macOS (Apple silicon or Intel), Windows (x64 or Arm64), or Linux (x64 or Arm64). Or a phone: iPhone with iOS 18+, or Android 9+.
- One app or website where your first Bot can do useful work.
Step-by-step setup:
- Download. Go to x.ai/bot and pick the download for your computer. Linux builds are under "More downloads." On a phone, use the App Store or Google Play.
- Install. On Mac, drag Grok Bot to Applications. On Windows, run the installer.
- Sign in. Choose Sign in. Grok Bot uses a Cursor account, so finish signing in in the browser window that opens.
- Link your plan if needed. If your access comes from an older SuperGrok plan, link it when the app asks (desktop: Settings → Usage & Billing).
- Answer the welcome questions. The app asks which tools you use. Your answers only shape suggestions. They don't connect anything.
- Create your first Bot. Pick a suggested teammate, or choose Create your own. Give it a short name, one job, and a description of how it should work.
- Connect one app. Open Connect apps in the sidebar, choose Add, and sign in in your browser.
- Give it a safe first task. Attach a document and ask for a summary. That needs no logins.
Account and privacy note: Grok Bot needs cloud data storage. If your Cursor account uses "Legacy Privacy Mode," you must switch to a supported setting first.
First-run checklist:
- ☐ My Bot has one clear job, not "General Helper."
- ☐ Its description includes "Never send, buy, publish, or delete without my approval."
- ☐ I connected only the apps this job needs.
- ☐ Execution on Local Computer is set to Ask every time or Never allow.
- ☐ I added at least one Ask first rule in Auto-review.
- ☐ Notifications are on for this Bot, so I see approval requests.
- ☐ I ran one read-only task and checked the result myself.
