GSGemini Spark for Beginners: The Complete Track

Beginner track · Google.

Prices and features checked October 14, 2026. Name change: in October 2026 Google began folding Spark into the main Gemini app as a "Task" button next to "Chat." Google's privacy page now says "Tasks in Gemini (formerly known as Spark)." Same agent, new label. We use both names here.

This page is a full beginner track. Each part can stand alone as its own web page and video.

What is GSGemini Spark?

Gemini Spark is Google's 24/7 personal AI agent inside the Gemini app. Google says it turns Gemini "from an assistant that can answer your questions into an active partner that does real work on your behalf and under your direction."

Spark runs in Google's cloud, so it keeps working when you close your laptop or lock your phone. It works with Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more. It can browse websites, run tasks on a schedule, and follow saved "skills." Google announced it at I/O on May 19, 2026. At launch, Google said it ran on Gemini 3.5 and used the Antigravity harness.

Key strengths

  1. Deep Google app access. Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Sheets, Slides, Keep, Google Tasks, Contacts, Search, Maps, Flights, Hotels, YouTube, and Photos (US).
  2. Three kinds of schedules. Time-based (hourly to yearly), Gmail monitors (when a matching email arrives), and topic monitors (news, finance, sports, local events).
  3. Skills. Reusable instructions, like a cheat sheet for a job you repeat. You can build them with Gemini's help or from templates.
  4. Browses for you. It uses your own Chrome on desktop ("Chrome auto browse"), or a separate remote browser in the cloud that keeps going after you close your device.
  5. Makes real files. PDFs, Word docs, spreadsheets, slide decks, plus Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
  6. Third-party apps. Canva, Instacart, OpenTable, Dropbox, and Zillow are rolling out, and you can add custom apps (MCP servers).

How-to guides

1. How to get a daily priorities brief

Who it's for: Anyone who opens Gmail, Calendar, and Drive every morning.

Steps:

  1. Go to gemini.google.com, or open the Gemini mobile or Mac app.
  2. Click Task below the text box.
  3. Paste the prompt below.
  4. Check the first result.
  5. Adjust the time or format by telling Gemini in the task thread.
  6. Pause it anytime from the Scheduled page.

Copy-paste prompts:

Every day at 7 AM, look through my emails, calendar, and Drive, and let me know what to prioritize for the day.

Make it shorter: 5 bullets max, with links to each email or file.

Pro tip: The first prompt above is Google's own example, so it's a safe first test.

Common mistake: Scheduling something sensitive right away. Google warns that if a schedule runs while you're offline, you may not be able to stop an unintended action.

2. How to clean up your inbox

Who it's for: Anyone buried in newsletters.

Steps:

  1. Click Task.
  2. Ask for a list of newsletters first, not deletion.
  3. Review the list.
  4. Then ask Gemini to archive or unsubscribe the ones you pick.

Copy-paste prompts:

List the newsletters and promo senders in my Gmail from the last 30 days, with how many emails each sent. Don't change anything yet.

Archive emails from the senders I marked and unsubscribe me from them. Show me the list before you start.

Pro tip: Archive instead of delete. You can always find archived mail later.

Common mistake: Saying "clean up my inbox" with no rules. Be specific about what counts as clutter.

3. How to track flight or hotel prices

Who it's for: Travelers watching a trip.

Steps:

  1. Click Task.
  2. Give the route, dates, and budget.
  3. Ask it to alert you, not book.
  4. Check the Scheduled page to see it's active.

Copy-paste prompts:

Monitor round-trip flights from Chicago to Orlando, Dec 20–27, for 2 adults. Alert me if the price drops below $350 per person. Don't book anything.

Also watch hotels near Disney Springs under $180 a night for those dates.

Pro tip: Google says monitors aren't ideal for very fast-moving or time-critical things, like tickets that sell out in minutes.

Common mistake: Expecting it to buy automatically. Keep booking as a separate step you approve.

4. How to book a dinner reservation

Who it's for: Anyone who hates hunting for a table.

Steps:

  1. Click Task.
  2. Give the area, time, party size, and food type.
  3. Ask for options first.
  4. Pick one.
  5. Approve the browser step when Gemini asks.
  6. If a site needs a login, take over and sign in yourself.

Copy-paste prompts:

Find 3 Italian restaurants near downtown Austin with a table for 4 this Saturday around 7 PM. Show me options with ratings. Don't book yet.

Book option 2 for 4 people at 7 PM under my name. Ask me before you confirm.

Pro tip: Never type card numbers into the task thread. Google says to take over the browser and enter details on the webpage.

Common mistake: Forgetting your device must stay awake if Gemini uses your local Chrome.

Free vs paid: who can get GSGemini Spark?

Notes:

  • Requirements: 18+, a personal Google account (not work or school), Keep Activity on, and opted in to Personal Intelligence.
  • Not available in the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.
  • Works only in the Gemini mobile app, the Gemini app on Mac, and gemini.google.com.
  • Google AI Pro also includes 5 TB of storage, YouTube Premium Lite, and Chrome auto browse.
  • Using higher models and thinking levels uses up your limits faster.

When is upgrading worth it?

  • Get AI Pro ($19.99) to try Spark. It's the cheapest paid personal agent of the five we cover, and it includes Google storage and other perks.
  • Get Ultra ($99.99+) only if you hit Pro's limits every week with tasks that matter.
  • Stay Free or Plus if you only chat. Those plans don't include tasks.

Limitations, and when to use a different agent

  • No UK or EU access. Try Hermes Agent (runs anywhere) or, for teams, Dots on Business Premium.
  • Personal accounts only. For Google Workspace business accounts, Google's separate "Gemini agent" for work is a different product.
  • Privacy trade-off. Tasks need Keep Activity on, which keeps your activity in your Google account. Google's privacy notice says human reviewers read some data. If that bothers you, Hermes with a local model keeps more on your own machine.
  • Want a free start? Muse has a free plan (US and Canada).
  • Want several named agents with their own jobs? Grok Bot.

FAQ

Is Gemini Spark free? No. Tasks (Spark) need Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) or Ultra ($99.99+/month). They're not on the free plan or Google AI Plus ($4.99).

Where did Gemini Spark go? Google is folding it into the main Gemini app as a Task button next to Chat. "Gemini Spark Settings" is now Task settings, and scheduled tasks live on a Scheduled page.

Can I use Gemini Spark in the UK or EU? No. Tasks aren't available in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, or Nigeria.

Is Gemini Spark safe? It asks before high-stakes actions and lets you take over the browser. But it can share info with websites to finish tasks, and it needs Keep Activity on. Start read-only, and keep sensitive tasks off schedules.

Is Gemini Spark the same as Google's "Gemini agent," Muse Spark, Adobe Spark, or Apache Spark? No. Google's "Gemini agent" (announced October 2026) is a separate product for businesses. "Muse Spark" is a Meta AI model name. Adobe Spark was a design app (now Adobe Express), and Apache Spark is data software. Gemini Spark is Google's personal agent in the Gemini app.
