How to use GSGemini Spark day to day
Part of the Gemini Spark beginner track · Google.
Chat or Task? Use Chat for questions and drafts. Use Task when you want Gemini to go do something, especially across apps or on a schedule.
Writing a task. Say the goal, the apps to use, and when to run it. Type @ to pick a saved skill. You can upload files or add them from Drive.
Schedules.
- Time-based: once, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly.
- Gmail monitors: "Whenever I get an email from my manager with an action item, draft a reply."
- Topic monitors: "Whenever a new food pop-up is announced in my city, email me the details."
- Find them all on the Scheduled page (Active, Paused, Completed, Suggested). Pause or resume from the task's schedule chip → More options.
Skills. Go to Customize → Skills. Create one with Gemini's help, from a template, or from scratch. Google's advice: "cheat sheets, not manuals." Keep each skill short and focused on one job.
Checking progress. Task threads show Ready, Needs attention, or In progress. Click the progress chip to see completed, current, and planned steps, and the files it read or changed.
Memory. Spark can use Personal Intelligence, which includes memory of your past Gemini chats and your "Instructions for Gemini."
Stopping and fixing.
- Stop browsing: click Stop in the Gemini in Chrome side panel.
- Cancel a task completely: click Stop in the Gemini text box.
- Change instructions: just tell Gemini in the task thread.
- Delete a task thread: this deletes the task and its schedules, but not files it created or remote browser data.
